Memento

(In French) The grandfather·mother is dead. He·She was hardly unanimous in his·her family, which is now reunited by his·her death. There’s the remorse, the resentment, the unspoken words and the explosions of the past; there’s what we’ve kept quiet, what we’ve chosen to forget.

As you read the will, you’ll be reminded of these memories, these reproaches that will forever remain unfulfilled. You don’t know what to expect, except that no one will emerge from this reading completely serene and satisfied.

In any case, you’ll be spending the next 48 hours in the company of other family members. An opportunity, perhaps, to repair what can be repaired, to heal the wounds of the past, or to acknowledge the break-up for good.
